Deactivation and Reactivation

Though all of the 101st campaigns where very successful, the 101st was deactivated on 30 November1945, at Auxerre, France. They where reactivated as a training unit in July 1948 and again deactivated on August 1950.  In July 1954, the 101st was again activated at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. They would stay there until March 1956 when they where moved to their present day home of Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

The 101st became the U.S. Army's first Pentomic division. A Pentomic division was a five sided division with nuclear capabilities. They where designed to fight and survive on a nuclear battlefield. Although the 101st was active they would not be used to actually fight until Vietnam.

Fort Campbell Jump School

Fort Campbell had a jump school in the 50's, but it was later closed and in time replaced with the Air Assault School.
